Glenn Reynolds responds to a typical Oliver Willis off-course bomb toss, without linking Ollie. That’s got to burn.
Willis complains (in regard to the Brittney Gilbert resignation):
You may want to (I know you probably won’t) note that a lot of the vitriol got directed at Gilbert, right or wrong, after she linked and excerpted a mean dig at the recently deceased Steve Gilliard.
But I know you’ve got an agenda and a cause to push and all.
This is the post he’s referencing. Right off the bat, you can see that Willis is continuing the left-wing bullshit that linking to a post without commenting on it indicates the linking blogger’s approval…there was a kerfuffle with Jonah Goldberg at NRO about this “practice” not so long ago. What Willis fails to recognize is that a) Brittney is a lefty herself, b) Brittney’s post caption, “Teaching Libs a Lesson” was in reference to Smantix’ comment here:
Am I taking the wrong lesson from Gilliard’s death, Jon?
Is there some greater message I am supposed to be receiving from the left side of the blogosphere greater than “be as mean and vicious as you can” so that you will be canonized in some leftist pantheon?
The Left’s hagiographs to Gilliard are surely reminiscent of the historical revisionism given to Jerry Falwell.
Maybe by seeing the ugliness of my post, you will think twice about the type of atmosphere you are now praising Gilliard for promoting.
So, the post caption is a satirical take on the linked post’s authors explanation for it. And finally, c) Brittney and Glenn were hardly friendly.
None of this matters in Oliver’s book, though: By god, there’s a left-wing meme to enforce, and he’s on it. Pfeh.
Update: Welcome again, Instapundit readers. Take a look at the Top Posts section over in the sidebar for more of my writing; I’m in “throw all the bums out” mode at the moment, so there’s bashing of just about everyone’s candidate. Or, just scroll down the front page. Thanks!

c) Brittney and Glenn were hardly friendly.
Well, and there’s the fact that Brittney and Smantix have always been practically mortal enemies for years now, too. Just sayin’.
Yeah, there’s that :-)
Good call.
Well, if these guys (Willis, Brittney) want to rip each other part I have no complaints.
This is a liberalism-wide issue now. A friend of mine just had 9 “friends” turn on him at a dinner party because a liberal twit there wouldn’t shut up about how Europe and Japan had to rebuild without the help of the US after WWII. Yes, she’s a Marshall Plan denier, and it cost my friend her and 8 other friends to correct her on that.
I see more and more liberal insanity every day. Don’t you?
Wow! Someone finally gets what Smantix’s post really meant! Bravo!
Through all these knee jerk assumptions and half cocked epithets, I don’t think anyone really read the post, let alone understood it.
This Steve character was a vicious individual. The pictureon he crafted of Michael Steele in “blackface” was only the tip of the iceburg.
He decimated his enemies and handed them all kinds of grief, merely because they had a difference of opinion, politically.
Smantix’s post was meant to reflect that. Most might not agree with it, but I bet Steve would.
