Bob Kerrey for Senate again? Two perspectives
The “non-ideological” Daily Kos:
Former Sen. Kerrey, thanks for your past service. Let’s keep it that way, huh?
The more pragmatic MyDD:
Kerrey’s entrance into the race would immediately make it a top tier pick up opportunity, expanding the playing field even beyond the 10 or so seats most commonly cited as in play for Democrats. And it would be yet another feather in the cap of recruiter in chief Chuck Schumer.
Markos has been adamant about Daily Kos’ non-ideological partisanship — the focus of netroots efforts is supposed to be electing Democrats, i.e., Jim Webb and Jon Tester type conservative Democrats as well as bleeding heart progressive types. Kerrey, however, (who is much better positioned than any other Nebraska Democrat to win this seat) appears to be anathema to Joan McCarter.
I’m giving a lot of thought to turning this blog into a clearinghouse for information on Conservative Democrats, Blue Dog Democrats, and New Democrats and their electoral positioning vis-a-vis increasing the Democratic majority in the House and Senate. It would obviously take a lot more time than the current blog does, but it seems to me it’d be worth the effort.
Update: Welcome, Instapundit readers, and thanks again to Glenn for linking!
I have another post on Kerrey and the netroots here.

I’m from Nebraska. Please do not subject me to this no win proposition!!! Chuck Hagel studied at the on-line “how to act like Bob Kerrey” school of politics! They are equally reprehensible! PLEASE! Spare me. I’m begging here!
It doesn’t surprise me that Daily KOS doesn’t like Kerrey.
Excerpted from an article by Kerrey:
“American liberals need to face these truths: The demand for self-government was and remains strong in Iraq despite all our mistakes and the violent efforts of al Qaeda, Sunni insurgents and Shiite militias to disrupt it.”

Kerry is not a Jim Webb Democrat; at least on the right to keep and bear arms. I, at least, remember the AK-47 ad he ran back in the day.
John Kerrey is an ex-Hollywood babe magnet now President of the New School (a bastion of left-wing re-education) and lives in New York (a real EEE). Tell me how he continues to fit into Nebraska rural/semi-urban, midwest values politics?
At the moment Hagel is looking at a very serious primary challenge from state att’y general Jon Bruning. Bruning has outpolled Hagel every time it’s been checked.
That’s BOB Kerrey, JiB. But yeah, you’re spot on.
More of the same. Bob Kerrey is still as close to a winning candidate as the Dems can field in Nebraska for that seat. The alternative is probably Bruning, not Hagel, who has shot himself in the butt quite a bit as far as Nebraska voters are concerned.
Hagel is probably going to announce his retirement from politics. He has zero support from Republicans to run for president, not enough money to run as an independent, and is facing a serious challenge from the state attorney general Jon Bruning. Hagel will have to face the facts here soon and admit that though he might be popular with Beltway media types, it’s killed his political career in the Republican party.
