Amanda Marcotte, of Edwards Blogger fame, has broken with Edwards because of his “sexism”:
Completely unacceptable amounts of sexism. It’s bad enough that the media plays the game with Clinton where if she shows any emotion, she’s too feminine or too scary, but if she’s more stoic, she’s a scary ballbuster, but to have her own party members (if political rivals) play that cheap sexist card is too much.
Single issue voting, sure. However, this is going to give much of the online left a good excuse to stop supporting Edwards. It was only a matter of time before his lefty “purity” was shattered, wasn’t it?

You know, I read the left blogs because I find them amusing. “Atrios” was noting with approval of a Keith Olbermann remark that “a woman and a black man” had won the first 2 Dem primaries, while the Republican primaries had been won by, well, you know, old white guys.
This struck me as pretty hypocritical. If they expect us to ignore the race of people and judge them on merits, what’s the difference? So what if a black and a woman won? Does that necessarily prove the intrinsic moral superiority of Democrats? When minorities and women rise to the top ranks in your party, does that mean you are oh so very open-minded and fair, or that the white guys who happen to be running suck?
I think its a coincidence compounded by some skullduggery. If former Virginia gov Mark Warner hadn’t mysteriously dropped out, he’d have been a very strong candidate for the Dems, young, Southern, moderate, personable and handsome, good speaker, just like Obama, of course, he’s not black.
I think Olbermann is full of crap. I think just the opposite. I think Dems are voting for Hillary and Obama BECAUSE they are a woman or they are black, which is racism and sexism also, just against whites and males, which is acceptable in liberal circles. No one says this, but the hard, blunt fact is, if Obama were white, he would have no campaign. There would be no Obamania. He would just be one of hundreds of young, capable, rising Democrat politicians. He never even would have been Senator. He was tapped for the exact reason that he IS black, and of the right political persuasion.
This doesn’t work for Republican blacks. Olbermann gives zero credit to Republicans for JC Watts, Condi Rice, Colin Powell, Michael Steele. They are just house *******s or Uncle Toms and Tommettes. Same with conservative women, like Kay Bailey Hutchinson or Elizabeth Dole. You only get points if you are “on the plantation” so to speak, with regard for “knowing what’s good for you”.
Olbermann is a disgusting demagogue at all times, but in this case his smug, puerile, spotty face needed a bood bitchslapping. Only Bill Maher rivals him for being such a giant asshole while at the same time (at appearing to) believing himself self-righteous and morally superior. Fuck them both.

Ahh, doc. The fact that the back-to-back debates on Saturday night showed one black guy, one woman, one white guy and one Hispanic guy on the Democratic side and six white guys on the Republican side doesn’t demonstrate the “intrinsic moral superiority” of Democrats. But it certainly does not establish their racism, either. It just shows that the Democratic party is a lot more representative of the population of the country at large.
And I sincerely doubt that Mark Warner decided not to run this time as part of a secret plan to showcase party diversity. I suspect that he just decided that he didn’t want to run for president this time around. Though I won’t be surprised to see him moving into the residence at the Naval Observatory next January, particularly if Obama gets the nomination…
I’m saying its because Democrats tear down any Republican black, woman or minority, plain and simple. Cases: Colin Powell, Condi Rice, Michael Steele. I propound more on this on my own blog.
Its probably a good bet Powell didn’t run, at least partly, because of attacks like Harry Belafonte’s, calling him a house****** and denigrating him. Same with Condi. We have one less black senator at least partly because of the disgusting “Sambo” attacks on Michael Steele, who could have been a rising star. JC Watts has stated very plainly that he quit the Senate, at least partly, because of the venom of his black Democrat “colleagues”, who refused to seat him on the Black COngressional Committee because he was a “race traitor”.
We all know the venom with which the Democrats blast Republican women like Kay Bailey Hutchinson, Elizabeth Dole and Katherine Harris.
The Dems and liberals bear some responsibility for keeping conservative minorities down. Of course, its in their interest to do so. It keeps them “on the plantation”, so to speak.
On the Hispanic front, you may see that change in the next generation. George Bush III is half Hispanic, and he’s got political ambitions. The Dems’ nightmare might come true.
