Do y’all remember back in October of 2004, when The Guardian tried its ill advised letter writing project to Clark County, OH? Not just letter writing, mind you, but encouragement to donate to “officially non-partisan groups whose activities, none the less, have the practical effect of helping one candidate over the other.”
Democrats were right fond of foreign influence on American politics back then, eh?
Skip forward to 2008, and we find a certain Mr. Bob Shrum railing against those dern Canadians and their trying to influence an election: “you’ve got a right wing government in Canada that is trying to help the Republicans and is out there actively interfering in this campaign.”
Hmmm, what was Bob Shrum doing in 2004? Why, he was advising John Kerry…the recipient of The Guardian’s good will.
Principles, and all that rot, eh?

heh that letter-writing campaign ruled, because it had exactly the opposite effect, as I remember, and in fact tipped some leaners over to Bush- even Kerry supporters resented it.
When you think about it, its very condescending and insulting. Basically, they are saying, forget America’s best interest in defending itself and its president doing what he feels best to protect you, instead think of other countries’ interest and act accordingly, even if it goes against your own self interest. Because, of course, we are so much wiser, we should come first, you stupid, ignorant, belligerent American blockheads.
