The indoctrination becomes official

We already have small children and frat boys filmed singing the parises of the Dear Leader. I guess it’s time to brainwash those in between.

From Real Debate Wisconsin:

My 8th grade son is in an advanced English class at a public middle school here in Racine, Wisconsin. I just found out that my son’s new (copyright 2008) Wisconsin – McDougal Littell Literature book has 15 pages covering Barack Obama.

I was shocked – No John McCain, no Hillary Clinton, no George Bush – Just Barack Obama. I’m wondering how it is that Obama’s story gets put into an 8th grade literature book? It would be one thing, if it was just the tidbit about his boyhood days, but 15 pages, and they talk about his “Life of Service”. Honestly, what has Obama really done to be included in this book? Not only that, but on page 847 there is a photo of Obama at the 2004 Democratic Convention with at least 8 Obama signs in the background! Front & center is an www.obama2004.com sign.

Now I understand that many teachers are liberals, but does the school have the right to shove Obama down our kid’s throats? All the kids grouped together and read the story. After that, they discussed it… I guess it appears that Obama is planning ahead. If he doesn’t get his coveted Presidency, Obama is going to make sure, that the younger generations know all about him, and his “life of service”.

If you would like to see the 15 page story on Obama, it appears that you can order this book online. There is a note in the book that says, For more on Barack Obama, visit the Literature Center at www.ClassZone.com The book is: Wisconsin – 8th grade – McDougal Littell Literature – copyright 2008. The Obama story starts on page 830. I hope you will take the time to look at this book. I’m really angry about this – In fact, I would love to rip the pages right out of this book.

They managed to come up with 15 pages of worship of Obama’s “life of service,” while John McCain didn’t warrant even 1?

Be afraid, folks. Be very afraid.

  1. Very, very sick.

  2. Hm. That doesn’t scare me, it makes me angry.

  3. Yeah, i’ve heard this and I’m a little dubious.

McDougal Little is a big publisher, and provides books to many, many schools nationwide, which means it should have some interest in avoiding this kind of publicity until after the election. Beside that, publishing textbooks takes a while.

for myself, I’ll wait until McDougal Little publishes a statement or someone more credible than the right wing blogs I’ve seen it on publishes something.

  4. I’m doing searches and this story is all over the place. I haven’t found any evidence other than what’s on blogs. If this is true, all I can say is … Wow…

  5. I’d like to be outraged but I can’t. It’s a literature book so we’re looking at 15 pages inappropriately dedicated to a guy and his three books. It’s not a surprise. I remember seeing a HS history book 2 years ago (it was in Boston don’t remember publisher) but Clinton trumped Reagan 4 pages and 2 images to 1 and 1 . What up with dat ?

  6. Here’s a screenshot of what purports to be the book in question. http://thetruthtracker.wordpress.com/2008/10/14/obama-in-middle-school-textbooks-already/

It seems it’s Obama’s Out of Many, One speach on Race.

To me that seems an appropriate topic for an 8th grade literature textbook.

  7. Yeah, it seems to be jumping the gun a bit on the historical importance of the speech (time will tell) but it does rank up their in terms of modern speeches about race.

  8. foreward by Chris Mathews ??? 8th graders with tingles in their legs ?

  9. Taken from a historical perspective, I agree with your assessment, Marc. From a literature standpoint though I think it’s worth including now; it WAS a great and potent speech. It hasn’t been backed up by anything, but it was great speech.

  10. 15 pages out of 800+? Yea, that’s indoctrination alright.

  11. Patience, Chen. He hasn’t even been elected yet.
