Earlier this week an Israeli newspaper, Haaretz, made the claim that Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak stated that “Hamas must not be allowed to win.”
Hamas must not be allowed to win its conflict with the IDF, Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak on Monday told a delegation of European foreign ministers in a closed conversation.
The comment occurred even as Hamas, for the first time since the fighting began, sent representatives to Cairo to discuss a cease-fire. Following a meeting with Egyptian intelligence officials, Hamas officials said they had received an Egyptian proposal and would consider it.
However, Egypt’s State Information Service refuted that claim, today, in an official statement.
Egypt denied the report that was published by the Israeli newspaper Haartez on 6/1/2009 in which it pretended that President Mubarak informed EU Troika delegation, which is visiting the region on a mission of peace, that Hamas should not win the current battle in Gaza Strip.
The Foreign Ministry spokesman said that there is a clear reason for Israel at this particular time to drive a wedge between Egypt and Hamas after Hamas refused the ceasefire that was set by Egypt in last November, adding that these maneuvers do not serve the aim of reaching an immediate end for the current situation.
And the PR war rages on…..
